In xhe Daniel Kok and Miho Shimizu explore how a singular body might already be an expression of multiplicity, whereby One is always already Other and Many.
xhe is not a he, not a she, not an it. Pronounced “zhee” or like “j’y” in French, xhe is the
pronoun for the possible, the queer or the multiple, a figure that moves between a Square and an Octopus.
The durational performance is a choreographic mash-up of different forms – part installation, part dance, part concert – bringing different international artists together in search for this elusive figure.
As we spend time together, we hope to summon, to discover, to receive, even to become xhe.
“Stepping into the fantasy of Daniel Kok and Miho Shimizu’s xhe beholds an immediate amplification of the senses. Their world borders between the vicissitudes of childlike fragility and maximal emotion, one where you can’t – even for a second – look away…In its five-hour span, xhe revealed itself as a momentary utopia where both performers and audience members decide into ongoing project with one another, a shared future of becoming.”
