BEATING DRUMS IN THE STATE OF ONE’S OWN
Founded by Artistic Director Liu Ruo-Yu in 1988, and joined by its drumming master and music director Huang Chih-Chun since 1993, Ms. Liu has led U-Theatre to present rigorous works of aesthetic beauty rooted in the disciplined study and practice of meditation, drumming, martial arts, taichi, dance and acting.
Uniting the East and West, ancient and modern, spiritual and physical, U-Theatre lives and breathes “excellence” as embodied by the meaning of the Chinese character “U”.
Over the last decade, U-Theatre has been invited to perform at world stages and festivals including the Barbican Centre (UK), Avignon Festival, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon and Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
